Register Run January 2014

AHRG Register Run

A great day organised by Carey and Kay, they even got the sun to shine down on us

On 19 January 2014 the AHRG had their first event for the year which was a Register Run. Eighteen cars assembled at the start at Croudace BayPark on a glorious Sunday morning.

First car away was Hal Moloney and Col Braye in the P76, followed closely by Rod and Karen Piggot in their immaculate 404.  Other competitors were Dan Robinson in his Volvo and ex State rally Champion Steve Blair in his BMW. It was good to see Dave and Dillon Mitchell having a run. They arrived at the start in their 260Z only to find they had a fuel leak so they had to duck home and borrow the family car.

Other competitors were driving different model Peugeots, a lone Starion and a Fiat just to name a few. Last car to leave was Ron Fraser in my 505 navigated by Ada Collins.

The route took them down past Swansea, through Catherine Hill Bay and then to Toukley. They then travelled to The Entrance around the tourist drive which overlooks the beautiful coast. Continuing on to to Wyong and then onto the Hue Hue Road through Wyee, Morisset and eventually to Freemans Waterhole. Then on to Wakefield, Teralba and finished off by travelling around beautiful Lake Macquarie and finishing at Valentine in the park where competitors had lunch.

First car back to the finish was Hal Moloney at approximately 12.30pm and cars trickled in for the next hour. Last car was Ron Fraser and Ada Collins (mainly because they stopped for a coffee mid event). As soon as Ron arrived at the finish he went straight over to the coffee shop at Valentine for yet another coffee.

There was also a guessing competition to keep the navigator and driver on their toes. There were a total of ten questions and no one managed to answer all ten. Geoff Thomas and Barry Collins in the Capri got nine out of ten and won the bottle of red wine, which Geoff kindly donated to Barry.

Everyone enjoyed the event and was a great way to kick off the New Year.
