Des West Classic Rally 2026
Fourteen competitors entered the Des West Classic Rally for 2026, a route charted navigational rally for classic cars, which started at the Pie in the Sky near Cowan, NSW, Australia. A cross section of classic cars, with a number of modern cars thrown in, gathered at the start, Japanese cars, Datsun, Mitsubishi, European cars, BMW, Volvo, Alfa, Reno were all represented. After sampling the pies from the ‘Pie in the Sky’ the competitors gathered for the crew briefing, were the event organizer outlines the event subdual. From the start competitors travelled view some interesting roads to the lunch break at Laguna, before continuing on to the finish near Cessnock in the Hunter Valley.
Des West was for many years the Patrol of the Australian Historic Rally Group, but before that he had a long career as a Racing/Rally driver, driving in all the great Australian Motorsporting events. He was in the twilight of his career when I started rallying, we both drove Leyland Marinas, the difference being that he was at the pointy end of the field where I was at the back end of the field.
